Hello there! Ready for post #3 of my watercolor Journey? On this post, I will be covering the Faber-Castell Gelatos. A few months ago I had seen a video from Simon Says Stamps in which Nina-Marie featured the Gelatos using the no-line watercoloring technique. Of course, as soon as the video was over, I drove over to my local Michaels store and got myself a set of the bright color Gelatos.
First thing I did with the Gelatos was open each one of them and test the color on a piece of watercolor paper. The Gelatos are like a creamier crayon and the colors are super vibrant (well at least the set I got!).
To test how reactive they are with water, I sprayed the watercolor piece above, tilted the piece upwards, and let the water run down the piece. See the cool and colorful results below:I liked the results so much that I decided to turn my testing sheet into a card! I used a Stampin Up butterfly stamp from the stamp set Summer Solstice. I colored the butterfly using Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers. Then finished the card by adding a cutout sentiment using a Recollections hello die cut and some embellishments. BONUS CARD!
Now back to the card I made for my own watercolor challenge and Journey! I decided to use the no-line watercolor technique once again. To color my project, I took the following steps:
- Stamped the large floral image from Simon Says Stamps “Floral Bliss” clear Stamp set using the Barely Beige ink from Simon Says Stamps.
- Scribbled the following Gelatos colors onto a palette: Red Cherry, Boysenberry, Snow Cone, Lime, Margarita Mix, Limoncello, and Bubble Gum.
- Sprayed the Gelatos on the palette with water and colored the image using a #2 round watercolor brush.
To turn this watercolor piece into a card, I used items that came in the Simon Says Stamps June 2017 Blissful kit: the “Celebrate” sentiment, one of the pattern papers, and the Black Color cardstock. I also added a butterfly that I cut using a Tim Holtz die cut. Below is the final card:
Gelatos are definitely a different watercoloring medium and I can’t wait to see what other techniques I can try with them!
Thanks,
Yami
