Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween! On today’s post I will be covering the Derwent Inktense Color Pencils. These color pencils are one of my favorite watercoloring mediums! I find them easy to use and vibrant.
To start with I wanted to show you what the colors look like, so I created a color chart. I have the set that comes with 24 pencils. In the color chart below, you can see how vibrant the colors are after applying water. I always get excited when I color with these pencils because the vibrant color from the pencil shows only after applying water! I glued the color chart I made to the lid of the color pencils’ container for future reference.
For my watercoloring project, I performed the following steps:
- Stamped the large floral image from Simon Says Stamps “Floral Bliss” clear stamp set using VersaFine Black ink.
- Clear heat embossed the large floral image using clear Ranger ultra fine embossing powder. Note: I personally do not like using Black embossing powder. I find that using black ink for stamping and then using clear embossing powder gives me cleaner results.
- Colors the image using the Inktense color pencils and a water pen. Colors used: 0200, 1700, 0300, 0400, 0600, 1600, and 2000. To color the image, I applied the color where I wanted my shadows to be (darkest areas) and dragged the color to the rest of the image using my watercolor pen.
To turn my watercolor piece into a card, I cut down the focal image to be 5.5” by 3.25”. I used items that came in the Simons Says Stamps June 2017 Blissful kit: the stripes pattern paper and the black color cardstock. In addition, I stamped the sentiment from the Painted Harvest Stampin Up set in VersaFine Black ink and added some black twine. See the final card below:
Overall I just love the fall colors of this card! It is definitely one of my favorite cards. The pencils are amazing to work with and I found them super easy to use. I definitely recommend these!
Bonus Picture: Check out our Halloween pumpkins!!! Had such a great time with my husband and one year old baby boy this Halloween!
